Rangeland Degradation Impacts on Vegetation Cover, Soil Properties and Ecosystem Functioning in an Arid and Semi-Arid Climate, South Africa

چکیده
The negative effect of soil erosion and compaction is well documented for the purpose optimum rangeland functioning, while impact degradation on effective depth seldom quantified. aim this study was to quantify response vegetation cover properties, particularly texture degradation. Forty-one farms were sampled in arid semi-arid climate South Africa. Within these farms, data collected over a gradient. Results showed significant decline relative basal (94% ± 15% 39% 17%) (90% 14% 73% 24%) as degraded. Soil changes gradients vary different homogeneous types. Indications regarding loss functioning ecosystem also demonstrated, using objective long-term relations between conditions grazing capacity. highlights importance sustainable management practices reduce ensure utilization ecosystem. These results can probably extrapolate other rangelands worldwide.

Degradation of Non-Photosynthetic Vegetation in a Semi-Arid Rangeland
Land degradation in drylands is the process in which undesirable conditions emerge due to human and natural causes. Despite the particularly deleterious effects of degradation, and it’s potentially irreversible nature, regional assessments have provided conflicting extents, rates, and severities of degradation, both globally and regionally. Current monitoring of degradation relies upon the dete...
متن کاملeffects of grazing and fire on soil and vegetation properties in a semi-arid rangeland
livestock grazing and rangelands fire are important ecological disturbances influencing the vegetation and soil properties in rangelands ecosystem. this study was conducted to determine the effects of different burned treatments and distances from the water sources on some soil and vegetation properties of rangelands ecosystem. the experiment was conducted in lashgar dar rangelands. vegetation ...
متن کاملImpacts of climate change on extreme precipitation events in arid (Bandar Abbas) and semi-arid (Shahrekord) stations in Iran
The aim of this paper is to project extreme precipitation events in an arid and a semiarid station. In order to project climate change based on general circulation models (GCMs), we have applied LARS-WG[1] downscaling tool. This stochastic weather generator down-scaled the climate of two synoptic stations using HADCM3 model and A2 emission scenario for 2040. We extracted extreme precipitation e...

Pollen data from 30 sites in arid and semi-arid regions of China were reviewed to document regional patterns of Holocene vegetation and climate change and to understand the large-scale controls on these changes. Vegetation at most sites in eastern Inner Mongolia switched between forest, forest steppe, and typical steppe, showing maximum moisture conditions before 6 ka (1 ka 1⁄4 1000 cal yr BP) ...
متن کاملFractional vegetation cover estimation in arid and semi-arid environments using HJ-1 satellite hyperspectral data
This paper evaluates the usefulness of the hyperspectral imager (HSI) onboard Chinese HJ-1-A small satellite in vegetation mapping. Fractional vegetation cover (FVC) is an important surface microclimate parameter for characterizing land surface vegetation cover as well as the most effective indicator for assessing desertification and crop growth condition. The HJ-1/HSI data were used to calcula...
